VOLUNTEER DAY UPDATE
Volunteer Day at the Blue Ridge Regional Park on April 2, 2011 was a great success.  Nine hearty volunteers attacked the bamboo stand, leaving a huge pile for the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority to dispose of using their chipper. Others went after the wild Mustard and Bitter Sweet.  A highlight was the discovery of a mature Dogwood completely covered with vines which the crew cut away so survival is likely.

Al Van Huyck, Peter Weeks, and Suellen Beverly represented the Friends of the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Robin Williams, Virginia Native Plant Society, once again led the work.  Su Webb, chair of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority and Karl Mohle, the ranger in charge, worked along side the volunteers.

It was great fun and really worthwhile.  We hope that more of our members will join us on the next Volunteer Day tentatively scheduled for September, 2011.
